da dobrowin: Brentford striker Neal Maupay is among the players Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace want to sign in the summer transfer window, according to The Sutton and Croydon Guardian.
The Eagles need to shake up their attacking options in the summer, with the futures of Alexander Sorloth, Michy Batshuayi, Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew unclear.
The only forward that is nailed on to still be at the club by the start of next season is Englishman Connor Wickham having recently put pen to paper on a new deal, but he’s only scored ten goals in the last four years amid injury woes.
Most of the Eagles’ goals, assists and threatening play comes from the wings as the team are way too reliant on their wide men, Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend.
The lack of a real goalscorer up front at Selhurst Park is clear to see. However, Maupay and his natural-born ability to find the back of the net could be able to change the dire striker situation in south London.
Why? You may ask. Just look at the above infographic and the sheer amount of goal contributions he managed in a struggling Brentford side in 2018/2019 in the Sky Bet Championship.
The highlight of this is a remarkable 25 goals, without which the Bees could very well be playing Sky Bet League One football next season, and a cool eight assists.
Just imagine what these extra goals would do for the Eagles next season – they have the potential to be the difference between battling relegation and going for Europe.
1.3 shots per game was another one of Maupay’s impressive stats last season, showing that when he’s not scoring, he’s never completely stifled, constantly trying his luck and sensing danger.
And four Man of the Match awards suggest that goals and assists aren’t everything the 22-year-old former France youth international offers, he weighs in with superb overall performances as well. Palace fans have every reason to be very, very excited if this deal goes through.
