Newcastle are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Inter full-back Davide Santon in a £5 million deal.
Manager Alan Pardew is keen to add a left back to his squad before the transfer window closes following the sale of Jose Enrique to Liverpool, and has seen moves for PSV’s Erik Pieters and Lyon’s Aly Cissokho thwarted over the last week.
The 20-year-old is seemingly surplus to requirements at the Giuseppe Meazza, and although Serie A neighbours Roma are interested, is keen on a move to Tyneside according to his agent.
“At this time there is no possibility Santon can join Roma because the aim is Newcastle,” representative Claudo Vigorelli confirmed.
The former Ravenna youth player has seven caps for Italy, but spent the second half of last season on loan at Cesena.
Meanwhile, Pardew is also thought to be keen to add another striker to his squad, with Sochaux’s Modibo Maiga a £7 million target. A replacement for outgoing Joey Barton is also on the former West Ham boss’ wishlist, who has left St James’ Park to join QPR.
