What’s the story?
According to Le 10 Sport, Liverpool have delivered a blow to Chelsea and Arsenal by entering the race to sign Pepe.
The Lille ace has been nothing short of sensational this season, and the report claims the Reds want him to provide depth, or even perhaps to replace Mohamed Salah if the reports linking the Egyptian to Real Madrid come to fruition.
The Gunners and Blues have been chasing the 23 year-old for some time, and while Liverpool’s incredible turnaround under Jurgen Klopp makes them an exciting option for the player, he seems to have already made up his mind.
Chelsea or nothing
Speaking on a French television broadcast back in April 2017, Pepe was asked which English club would be his dream move.
“Chelsea,” he replied. “It’s the club in England that makes me dream. It’s the only club in England that I would sign for.”
While this interview is now 12 months old and the player has since enjoyed a remarkable breakout season, his comments are about as cut and dry as they come.
With 20 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this term he would certainly be an excellent signing, but Reds fans may just have to accept that this ship has sailed.
