da marjack bet: According to The Mirror, a host of Premier League clubs are keen on signing Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi after the west London club recalled the striker from a disappointing loan spell at Marseille – Crystal Palace are sniffing around and would be making one of their best signings in recent history if they can get a deal over the line.
What’s the word?
Well, The Mirror reports that Everton are in the hunt for Batshuayi but will have strugglers Fulham and Palace to contend with, as well as the Belgian’s former club, Marseille.
The hitman has fallen behind Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and, having splashed the cash already this month, it would seem the Blues are hoping to recoup some money where possible and have slapped a £14m price tag on his head.
Having strangely ducked out of a move to sign Dominic Solanke earlier this month, Palace are still in desperate need of a new centre-forward and, as bargains come, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Perfect fit?
The 25-year-old can feel extremely hard done by that he hasn’t been afforded regular minutes at Chelsea, especially considering that neither Morata or Giroud have set the world alight this season – Maurizio Sarri’s loss could be Palace’s gain if they can stump up the cash.
Despite all their ability to work chances, most are squandered due to the absence of a clinical finisher in the ranks – Jordan Ayew is the Eagles highest, and only, scoring striker after he notched his first goal in red and blue against Wolves on New Year’s Day.

January 2018 signing Alexander Sorloth has been temporarily offloaded to Genk, leaving Swansea loanee Ayew; a misfiring Christian Benteke and an injury-prone Connor Wickham the options for Roy Hodgson up front.
Batshuayi showed at Borussia Dortmund last season that he is a top striker – he bagged seven goals in 10 league appearances – and his ability to finish on either foot would make him the perfect fit in Hodgson’s free-roaming attacking style; his strength would help him bring the likes of Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha into play, and his quick turn of pace makes him far less predictable than the current crop.
